The Role Of Rock N Roll In Rock T Shirts
Rock n' Roll along with rock t shirts is going to be around for many generations to come. The popularity of Rock n Roll is evident by the prominence of colorful rock T Shirts in the garment industry. A brief history of rock music, which revolutionized entire generations and inspired the culture and lifestyle of the last six decades, is given below. Nineteen fifty one was the year in which the term 'Rock-and-Roll' was first used when Alan Freed, a Cleveland jockey, picked up the phrase from a then popular song, "My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll." Rock-and-Roll, in the 50's, was a kind of music that was considered to be filled with sexual themes. The music was distinguished by its' strong rhythm, a hint of major music genres like the blues, jazz, and country, and the loud electric guitar. The start of the new decade of the sixties, in the United States, came with an evolved version of Rock-and-Roll music - heavy accentuation of its' beats, electronic amplification of instruments, and simpler and more youthful lyrics. It was in this decade that rock music became very popular and highly loved by many inside and outside the United States. This genre owes its' down-the-line achievements to Chuck Berry, who created this wild, crazy, jail-break kind of music, called Rock n' Roll. Before the 1960's and its' legendary rise, rock music saw much upheaval and tragedy. The deaths of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, Little Richard becoming a preacher, Elvis being drafted, and Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry being charged criminally, are only some examples. Rock n’ Roll’s hero, Church Berry, spent three years in prison for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old waitress. These scandals, along with many more, nearly ended the Rock n' Roll era, until the Beatles invaded the U.S. WWDC radio station played the Beatles hit "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" on December 17, 1963, which was the first time America heard them. The invasion had begun. The year 1964 began with the arrival of Beatles in the United States in two ways - one, their song "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" became a chart topper on January 18 and they performed live on the Ed Sullivan show on February 9. The Beatle phenomenon was dubbed "Beatlemania" by the CBS Evening News. Until 1970, when they finally disbanded, the Beatles enjoyed stellar prominence throughout the music world. The 1970's saw the ultimate achievements for Rock music through both astounding popularity and wealth. Rock concerts were sold out and rock stars became idols of the generation. The undulating wave of popularity in the 70s made the way for rock bands and stars to begin selling rock T shirts, concert T Shirts and a host of other merchandise. The most popular and most distinguishable forms of rock music were blues rock, jazz-rock fusion, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, glam rock, and heavy metal, which until now is the loudest, fastest and craziest kind of rock music. Political and social criticism found a venue in the late 70's with the arrival of punk rock on the music scene. Punk rock branched out into New Wave, post-punk and alternative rock in the 1980s, which eventually led to the rise of indie rock, Brit pop and rock metal in the 90's. The 80's and 90's gave birth to musical and cultural icons that became and still are household names. Prominent amongst those that achieved this status are Kiss, Madonna, U2, Prince, Jon Bon Jovi, and Metallica, to name a few. These amazing artists led the way in shaping American music and the industry in general as we know it today. Rock n Roll has taken on a cultural status today. It dominates the movies, sporting events, and fashion. Rock T shirts are simple mementos to the musical revolution we have witnessed.
